- You are what you consume
You are what you consume
You know the "You are what you eat"
Have you heard the modern version:
"What you consume is what you become"
And most of the time you consume something that will turn you into a mindless slob.
Woah woah take it easy!!! Let me explain.
You are a product of everything you take in. Food you eat, friends you hang out with, social media accounts you follow, books you read, movies you watch…
All of that shapes you and your perception of the world.
I've had a problem where I felt so down in my life, constantly exposed to negative though patterns and my mind was in a quite dark place. Chronical anxiety and feeling lack of purpose in anything I do.
Let me take you on a journey:
I) THE PROBLEM
I wasn't happy with my job
I wasn't happy with my friends
I wasn't happy with who I actually am
It was easy to just stay in this depressed mood and stay comfortably there, blaming the whole world for my lack of purpose and do the same thing to 'numb' my pain.
I had a terrible habit of just scrolling through Instagram and seeing dozens of profiles of girls posing around. My communication with some friends was just sending profiles to check out some girl that lacks attention in her life.
I was consuming all this content and only later I understood that it affects my purpose and it crashes my dopamine making it harder for me to start doing something new and meaningful.
At some point it became chronic and I would hate that I'm just mindlessly scrolling and consuming all this toxic content. But I realized I had a problem. And just like that the first light of awareness came in. Soon after it started spreading like a wildfire and I had to make a change.
I was finally aware that I have a problem.
Consuming content that was just eating up my dopamine.
Content that would just make me envious of someone else's fancy lifestyle. Fast cars, luxurious holidays and all the glitter of the material world. But I never wanted that.
I saw that because of my habits and daily consumption of news, socmedia, friends I'm surrounded etc. I felt stuck and constantly saw the same patterns repeating.
I was making unhealthy decisions that just fed my unhappiness.
And as a product of this negative mindset and attitude, my personal and professional growth was stagnant. I was lacking inspiration and encouragement.
It almost felt like there was this foreign entity that made the decision for me and I never felt I had a full grasp of my reality.
Just like that, I felt tired of being unaware and dancing between chronic anxiety and depression. The pain was so great that I couldn't ignore it anymore.
Depression and anxiety are just that. Signs that the problem is now too big and you can no longer ignore it.
I turned around and this was not ONLY my problem. This was the problem of all my pears. Can you relate?
I decided to not let it control my life anymore. I had my purpose. Beat the core of it and live happier.
This is the hardest phase and it took me quite some time to get to the bottom of it. If you’re struggling, reach out to me HERE! Let’s see how I can help you :)
II) THE GOAL
If you are reading this far I want to say CONGRATS. You came a long way. If you want to make a change and you are AWARE that you don't want to feel all of the stress, anxiety and fear. You made the first step. You lit up the candle of awareness.
The next step is to become mindful and aware of what decisions you are making.
If your goal is to:
More positive overview on life
Full control of thoughts and action
Getting unstuck from the current loop
Get healthier and more positive mindset
Please continue reading.
The goal Is to shift towards a more positive and healthy consumption pattern to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. By making conscious choices about what we consume, we can cultivate a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
The biggest change for me happened when I started looking at things a bit differently. Explore deeper and see what's underneath and not only what's on the surface. This way I got to actually figure out if I REALLY wanted to consume the info or not. Just being aware that anything I consume somehow shapes my future is a powerful tool to make a change.
Let me give you an example.
There is plenty of junk food. But this junk food doesn't do anything to me UNTIL I decide to consume it. I won't get fat from it, I won't get sick because of it. It won't affect my life anyhow if I decide to not let it enter my body.
Same with everything else.
Just by choosing not to participate you are choosing to avoid a thing that can negatively impact your life.
BUT
Here's the catch.
What's negative and what's positive?
That's exactly the challenge and here is how I went through it.
III) Path to fulfilling life
As you probably guessed, indeed, you have to make a CHANGE!!!
But you can't make a change if you don't know where to start.
Here's what worked for me.
One of the best ways is to take an audit of a typical day for you. Everything you do from the moment you open your eyes in the morning, until you close them and go to sleep at night:
Take a shower
Have breakfast
Walk to the bus
Sit in the office
take a walk during lunch break
Watching television
Scrolling through social media
Lying on the couch
Doing exercise
Eating food
Having conversations with friends
Etc.
Everything that you do in the day I need you to have it in your mind and be mindful of it, Don't judge it just know that you're doing it. If it helps write these things in a journal. That’s what you need to do!
So it's a 3 step thing. IF it's done right I guarantee you'll succeed in turning your life around.
Step 1:
Take an audit of your day so far – or an audit of what you did yesterday – and write down every action you did.
Step 2:
Next, put a + or - next to it, which will reveal how productive or destructive your day was. If it was something that made you happy, stronger or more enthusiastic, or helped you achieve your goals, it would get a '+'. If it was something that made you miserable, weaker, or sabotaged your goals, it would get a '-'.
Step 3:
Finally, review your list.
This will give you info of what you are doing and what are the things that drain you or give you energy. Don't judge yourself, you want to make a change.
AND HERE IS THE MAIN CHALLENGE
I encourage you to STOP doing the things you marked as -. For the next two weeks totally stop them and consciously decide to change them with something that brings you peace and prosperity.
Let's say you're like me and have a habit of mindless scrolling. And you are doing it everywhere.
CHOOSE to do something else instead. If you are waking up and scrolling, choose to have a 10 minute meditation, or just sit with yourself and think of all the things you might achieve today. If you struggle to find a proper substitute, reach out to me, I am sure I can help you out with this step. (Reach out HERE)
If you are scrolling on the way to work, choose a book and just read it on the bus. If you are just listening to music during your car ride, choose an audio book or podcast to listen to.
If you have bad insta consumption habits, choose to delete the app for 2 weeks, nothing more. If you have concerns that you'll miss out on the world, friends, family etc. No you won't, those who matter will find a way to talk to you and ask you how you're doing
Just for two weeks
A lot of you will say I need to read the newspaper, I need to scroll on my phone to find ideas. I need to do this or that…
The only thing I'm gonna tell you is, every time someone makes a suggestion that's life altering and life changing, people always come with resistance because they are comfortable telling themselves the same BS.
This is only a narrative that you live in and story you are telling to yourself "I need this, I need that"
Before you tell yourself you are the outlier, think about the people that are telling to themselves this narrative are always unhealthy, unfulfilled, lacking purpose and ultimately unhappy.
The ones who take a look in the mirror and they say "I need to make a change" are the people that come 1 year later and say I did this and it changed my life and I want to help people.
You simply need to take the exact same amount of energy that you’re using to complain about what you don’t have, and transmute that to create the circumstances that you want.
For 2 weeks cut out all these negative things you took audit of and marked them as negative.
Instead of cutting them only, I challenge you to change them with something positive. Something that makes you feel good, something that improves your life.
Do this for 2 weeks and make another audit.
The things you cut out, did you miss them?
Did you really lost all your friends and family?
Did you lack information to create somethin new?
Did you really miss any of these and do you really need to introduce them back in your life?
IV) The beginning of new life
Just by doing these 3 steps with a feedback loop, I was able to realize my bad habits and challenge all the things that were keeping me in the negative swirl.
I became much more mindful of what decisions I am taking and chose to consume healthier info and with this, make healthier decisions.
I noticed that my physical and mental health significantly improved, but that's not even the main thing.
The major change for me was the growth as a person. I found my purpose and my calling. It was a spiritual growth that shaped me who I am today and who I shall be in the future.
If you are struggling with this and don't know where to start, please know that it doesn't have to be this way.
Reaching for help is a strength so I invite to schedule a free consultation with me. I've walked this path and I know it's a tough one.

Let me leave you with this brilliant quote
“One thing’s for sure. If we keep doing what we’re doing, we’re going to keep getting what we’re getting. One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect different results.”
